Firefox 1.5.0.3 and printing
Hi, Suse 10.0 64-bit. Since last update of firefox (1.5.0.3) when I try to print a page, it prints it, but the printing window stays open, displaying "Preparing page...", and cancel button is dimmed. This freezes firefox, no other firefox windows and tabs are accessible. No new window can be opened as well. The only way out is to kill it. Anyone else experiencing such a problem? I found only this bug report, but it is closed as resolved: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317289 Cheers -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Windows is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

I had the same problem in the i386 version of 10.3. You might try starting firefox from a command window; see if you also get the "corrupted double-linked list" message that I did, along with a backtrace. If you have any extra users on your machine, try logging in as one of them and see if you have the same problem (or log in as root). In my case, I solved the problem but the cure (unintentional) was worse than the disease: I deleted my .kderc file. So I'm pretty sure that the problem lies in some corruption within .kderc, probably a version incompatibility -- but I don't know how you can find it. Good luck! Paul

Thanks Paul, I just found your bug report at mozilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336435 I added there a comment to confirm that behaviour on 64 bit system as well. I do not know if I want to delete my .kderc :), so maybe a rollback to 1.5.0.2 is something I would try, if I know where from to find the old rpms. I'm sure you don't need to delete the entire .kderc. I did it by accident, but a side effect was to cure the Firefox printing problem. Almost certainly there's some anomaly within .kderc that, if corrected, will solve the printing problem. Paul

Unfortunately, no joy here :(. I deleted .kderc, (i.e. renamed it :) ), restarted X, and firefox still hangs. Can you think of some other change you made to your system, which may cause the problem to disappear? Do you get the printing problem if you log in as root? I didn't. If you can find any environment at all where the problem doesn't occur, you can then try to figure out what the difference is. Paul

Many thanks to report it! I already added this information to your Mozilla bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336435#c3 I have no clue whether it is really caused by the "GTK-Qt Theme Engine" but it might hopefully help the Mozilla/Firefox experts to find the real reason. I just added a comment to the bug report, that in my opinion this can/may be a SUSE problem only, as no other distro has been reported. So maybe the FF maintainers at SUSE can take a look as well. I'll open a bug report at opensuse later. The most important thing to establish is that since more than one person has had this problem, it's a real bug and not just a misconfiguration brought on by ignorance. Paul
