But you could do
rpm -e --justdb grub
to make RPM believe that there is no grub package installed. That way YOU won't consider the available grub update as relevant for your system.
Arrrrrghh that's wonderful! That's exactly what I needed: remove grub from the rpm database but still keep the grub files around. Many thanks Hartmut! Also, thanks to Stepthen and Carlos for the comments. -- Jorge
