I'm probably not the only one who will not give up KDE and who very much does not want to move from SuSE to another distribution. So, if Novell does not back down from it's intention to abandon full KDE support on the commercial product, many of us are going to be faced with an "issue:" How to remain with both SuSE and KDE.
I guess you are referring to some articles on linuxtoday.com and other sites on the internet. It's very unfortunate that they are so inaccurate and misleading! First of all it's advisable to show cool, until there are hard facts and remeber that this is exclusively focused on business products like SLES and NLD. In addition to that, this is not about dropping a desktop, but about making one the _default desktop_.
We might as well start considering how to deal with this unfortunate eventuality now.
The information that's out there right now says the OpenSuSE will continue to include the full complement of KDE software, so the question seems to be how easy will it be to run the commercial SuSE release and augment it with my beloved KDE? What challenges will it produce?
[I guess you are talking about the retail version of SUSE Linux.] ... ultimately: Just changing an option (if at all).
By the way, I saw no mention of when KDE would be dropped. Will 10.1 include it, or will it not be dropped until a later release?
KDE won't be dropped. If this information is out there - it's simply wrong. Regards Christoph
