I have a server that I've upgraded from 9.2 to 9.3 As I only have a VGA monitor on the box I only want console access through the screen. However I do want to VNC/X11 onto the box hence I need to operate in runlevel 5. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't have 9.3, so I can't check it, but I think you could just remove the S*xdm and K*xdm from your /etc/rc.d/rc5.d directory (in 9.1 it's S15xdm, and K07xdm). Absolutely NOT. Run Level 3 is the appropriate run level for command-line only. Run Level 5 is run level 3 + X.
