I don't know why this would be, but I found that if my Logitech QuickCam4000 is plugged-in during the install, sound is completely hosed. I don't know why yet, but once it's unplugged and SuSE 9.3 is reinstalled, everything works fine.
I have a QuickCam 3000, but I did not have it connected during the OS install (Suse 9.2). However, if I happen to boot the computer with the webcam plugged in, all I get is the single slider USB mixer. I can't hear sound from my programs. Unplugging the cam does not bring my sound back. I must reboot with the cam unplugged, then plug it in after the computer is up and running. Then I have two mixer choices: the USB device and my regular SoundBlaster Live. Remember a few versions back there was a line in a file somewhere about "blacklisting" usb sound? I wonder if that is still an option?
