Sandy,
Most of the commercial backup vendors support linux and/or SUSE, so you might want to use whatever your corp. standard is.
My previous company used ArcServe for Windows and the linux client for our unix servers. It did work, but it also cost an arm and a leg to buy the client licenses and the advanced server version of arcserve. Can't afford that for my private server. :-/
Also Arkeia used to have a free version of their backup software. It was fully functional except for tape library support as I recall.
The last free version was 4.2 IIRC. I'll check it out anyway. Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten Arceia completely. (^-^)
The only GPL solution I know that provides the inventory you are talking about is Amanda, but I have not used it, so I can't say how good or bad it is.
I'll try that one first and tell about my experience in the next days. Provided I can switch the tape to the new system with one arm in a cast. Sandy
