I had the same problem using K3B on SuSE 9.2. I had borrowed a DVD dual layer writer to burn a SuSE DVD for a backup copy. As the disc's cost $10 each I tried the simulation first and found that it had actually burnt the DVD instead. Since then I had forgotten about this problem until you mentioned it.
Looks like a common problem with both K3b and xcdroast on both SuSE 9.1 & 9.2
It will be too much coincidence if my windows freeware burner also doesn't support simulation mode in a DVD? Perhaps it is not a problem... it's a feature :-) See a screenshot (simulation mode = 'test write'): http://www.cdburnerxp.se/help/images/burn_data.png -- Marcos Lazarini
