on my work machine updating the kernel breaks my system. I get a message saying grub can't find (hd0,1)/boot/message or something like that.
I have two scsi discs (booting off the first) and an IDE disc that acts as my /home - dunno if that's the cause of the trouble.
What does /boot/grub/device.map look like? According to "grub info" --> "naming convention", grub doesn't always get the proper sequence of hard drives, eg. swapping SCSI and IDE in the BIOS boot sequence. Perhaps the kernel update caused grub's view of things to change.
