After updating the kernel during my YOU update tonight, I noticed a definite boost in my system's speed. Whatever the heck they did, I like it! :) I'll go back an re-time this sucker. Well, it's not by much - but it _is_ faster. -- DC Parris GNU Evangelist http://matheteuo.org/ http://chaddb.sourceforge.net/ "Free software is like God's love - you can share it with anyone anytime anywhere!"

Well, I find the standard kernel with 9.2 much faster than 9.1, but on my work machine updating the kernel breaks my system. I get a message saying grub can't find (hd0,1)/boot/message or something like that.
I have two scsi discs (booting off the first) and an IDE disc that acts as my /home - dunno if that's the cause of the trouble. Works damn nice at home though. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za

What does /boot/grub/device.map look like? According to "grub info" --> "naming convention", grub doesn't always get the proper sequence of hard drives, eg. swapping SCSI and IDE in the BIOS boot sequence. Perhaps the kernel update caused grub's view of things to change.

When was the last time you did an update? There was a kernel update recently, perhaps that has something to do with it?!
