IIRC, one of the apps recognized the camera type by itself, the other
required that I tell it which camera it was. Beyond that, it was
the usual don't read the docs, just thrash about in the GUI. Didn't
take much thrashing, it mostly just did.

For what it's worth, I have 8.1 Pro, kernel 2.4.21, and USB hotplug works (usually).
I know it doesn't help much, but my A75 is not recognized by 8.2 and is not on gtkam's menu of cameras, but it works fine with 9.2 beta. KDE has a digital camera app too in 9.2.
