Saving the KDE default view

I'd like to set the KDE default view from the icon view to the multicolumn view. I've tried changing the view in the current window and then saving the view profile, which I was advised to do a while ago, but that seems not to have any effect. The view profile in effect seems to be "filemanagement". (This is for SuSE 9.1.) Paul Abrahams
