Saving the KDE default view
I'd like to set the KDE default view from the icon view to the multicolumn view. I've tried changing the view in the current window and then saving the view profile, which I was advised to do a while ago, but that seems not to have any effect. The view profile in effect seems to be "filemanagement". (This is for SuSE 9.1.) Paul Abrahams

I assume you are speaking of the Konqueror view settings. If I have to adjust mine, I just overwrite the 'filemanagement' or 'webbrowsing' profile. Next time I start Konqueror, it's just how I had configured it to be. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia

By "overwrite" I assume you mean changing the view for the current folder and then saving the view profile via the settings, right? I thought that's what I did (and I tried it several times). I wonder why that works for you but not for me? Paul

Yes, I adjust the view for the current folder to my liking and save it to the 'filemanagement' profile. Next time I start Konqueror, the filemanagement profile respects the saved settings. I thought you might perhaps have stored the adjusted setting into a new profile, instead of overwriting the settings in the filemanagement profile. Other than that, I have no idea what could be wrong on your side, so let more knowledgeable list readers come forward with suggestions. Good luck, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. I just remembered another detail to take into account. How do you start Konqueror? I start it from a panel icon which executes the command 'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement', so on every start, the filemanagement profile is honored. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia

It is not very intuitive but this will do what you want: Settings->View Properties Saved in Folder Brana

That only affects the current folder, doesn't it? I want to change the view for all folders. Paul

Yes but if you have "View Properties Saved in Folder" set and you keep browsing it just keeps whichever setting you started with and saves it everywhere you browsed, so effectively you get what you want. I always have this set to on I and I always have (in all folders) the "Detailed List" view which is what I want. I haven't played around with what happens if you switch "View Properties Saved in Folder" off. Brana
