The threads have become a bit garbled, but i think this is the right timestamp:
On Tuesday 28 September 2004 04:19, Ben wrote <snip> And its a compiler for python. But i caint get anything to compile? i use SuSE 9.1 personal DL version.
So it's the download edition, therefore no manual/box to read. It also seems that he's working for a non profit organisation (gleaned from another thread) so maybe they don't have much money for OS lisensing.
Still Ben, I think a single copy of Pro would be a good idea just for the manuals that come in the box, plus there'd be at least one machine with GCC on it.

Really? From what message did you get that? Traveling from your mail up to the original mail from Ben I did not see it.
Yes, he did, but on another thread, although related. He is mixing and jumping threads, and not exactly responding to the questions asked of him (like the output of the gcc command).

That's the first hint that he gives. A bit later it is confirmed:

It would be nice if you had quoted that mail, together with the timestamp, so everybody would be able to find the originating mail.
There you have.
Another luser who can't read.
That remains to be seen...
That you did not notice he is using the personal version proves what I was about to say, that it is quite difficult to follow what he writes and means; at least for me. Very possibly he did not read the information on the personal box that it doesn't contain development programs and libraries, or did not understood it. Perhaps Michael was a bit harsh, but that's the quick impression he gives.
