For information on the drift file, go there:
http://nf.apac.edu.au/facilities/sc/compaq_mirror/HTML/MAN/MAN4/0189____.HTM
and also www.ntp.org
All my linux servers point to an internal time server, it works but I have
no drift file, my /var/lib/npt does not contain it, and I have no error,
even if I've xntp-4.1.1-286 which seems to have that bug?

Someone on this list suggested to another user that he delete the drift file for ntp, which got me curious about the status of my file. Well, there is no drift file. It has never been deleted which means it was never there. ...And there are problems, seemingly: 2 Aug 17:51:30 ntpd[31750]: can't open /var/lib/ntp/drift/ntp.drift.TEMP: No such file or directory ...and that is all I ever get though the clock seems to be correct --probably that way from the initial xntpd startup, I would imagine, since that log
states the clock was set.
So... can someone please tell me what belongs in the drift file ... and in what format? I run SuSE 9 Pro.
