I've been working on DNS on my server, and from my server I can't setup a zone that finds that server (from the server).
I have been doing this with the server listed first in resolv.conf, along with two nameservers from my ISP.
I've never done anything with route.
BTW, I've tried a couple of tools to generate zone files from /etc/hosts. Some of them are badly out of date (bind 4) and some of them err on IPV6 def's. None of them give me a working set of files.
I have a very simple network and don't understand why I'm having this much trouble. (Am somewhat afraid to wait for an answer/opinion on that matter.
Thanks Joe, (btw, are you at New Tribes in Waukesha?)
I started to use Yast to set up DNS. I made the zone files and started to enter records. When I exited, it lost most of the records :-( I then went into Webmin and edited the records from there. The combination worked great. IMO Webmin works well for editing both DNS and DHCP although my keys for dynamic updates and initial zone files were created easily in Yast. as always ... YMMV Louis
