"kdegnome" should be "kde gnome" - they are two different directories providing, not surprisingly, kde and gnome packages. I would edit this list heavily, unless you are into cutting-edge stuff and dependency resolution. I would keep base, security and updates. Take out all the suser-* directories, except suser-rbos, which will give you synaptic. Packman will give you mplayer and multimedia stuff. Suse-people, suse-projects and mantel-kernel are development stuff. Usr-local-bin is ulb-gnome, but this will often conflict with mozilla and gnome. So, a suggestion would be: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386 base update security suser-rbos funktronics packman packman-i686
You don't need the second list - duplication.
Read the apt for SuSE page at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ very carefully - it's really easy to fsck up your system if you're not careful!

Thank you Richard and David, I followed your suggestions and my sources.list now looks like this: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386 base update security suser-rbos funktronics packman packman-i686 My list of updateable software is a lot shorter now! But I'm not out of the woods yet. When I mark anything for upgrade I get this list of software to remove: OpenOffice_org OpenOffice_org Quickstarter OpenOffice_org-en OpenOffice_org-en-help amarok digikam gambas gwenview k3b kadslwatch kaffeine klamaris kalbum kam2 kamix kappdock karamba karchiver kbarcode kbear kbiff kconfigure kbar kdbg kdclock kdeaccessibility3 kdeaddons3-games kdeaddons3-kate kdeaddons3-kicker kdeaddons3-konqueror kdeaddons3-kontact kdeaddons3-sound kdeadmin3 kdeartwork3 kdeartwork3-xscreensaver kdebase3 kdebase3-SuSE kdebase3-devel kdebase3-extra kdebase3-kdm kdebase3-nsplugin kdebase3-samba kdebindings3 kdebindings3-c kdebindings3-java kdebindings3-javascript kdebindings3-perl kdebluetooth This list is much longer, but I'm tired of typing and I think you can see what's happening, apt seems to want to remove kde and some other stuff before it will upgradeing anything. I think if I remove these packages I will be very, very sorry.:-) What should I do now? Thanks, Jerome
