Will this work with any X server?
There is only one X server included in SUSE. If your question is "any distribution", the answer is NO, it has to be manually configured (not very easy). This feature is present in SUSE, out-of-the-box starting with 9.0.
If I "ssh -X -l user SuSEBox" what command would I then use to start the remote destop?
You don't need to ssh into the remote machine. Just use KDE Remote Client with vnc://remote_machine or vncviewer remote_machine. This will present you a remote KDM login screen, then will start KDE and shut it down when you log out.
