Is there any way to set desktop sharing so that the "shared desktop" does not have to "accept" the connection? I have a server with kde installed and I'd like to be able to do a desktop share. I've unchecked "Confirm uninvited connections .." under Options on the server, but a confirmation dialog still pops up, and until it's answered, nothing progresses. Thanks- Dan

I have this working. Did you set a password for incoming connections? -- Stephen Chadfield http://www.chadfield.com/

There is an option at installation, VNC Remote Administration. To activate after installation, use YaST, Network Services, Remote Administration. It way better that starting KDE and letting it take up RAM all the time. With this method, KDE is started only when you connect and login. Then, when you're done, you logout and KDE is shut down.

Will this work with any X server? If I "ssh -X -l user SuSEBox" what command would I then use to start the remote destop? Thanks john ------------------------------------ John N. Alegre o Andante Systems o eCommerce Consulting o Custom Web Development <*{{{{}>< ------------------------------------

There is only one X server included in SUSE. If your question is "any distribution", the answer is NO, it has to be manually configured (not very easy). This feature is present in SUSE, out-of-the-box starting with 9.0.

You don't need to ssh into the remote machine. Just use KDE Remote Client with vnc://remote_machine or vncviewer remote_machine. This will present you a remote KDM login screen, then will start KDE and shut it down when you log out.

If what you want is to: run Kmail on a remote machine for a specified user with the display on your local machine which is running X-Windows That can be done with the following command ssh -X <user>@<remotemachine> /opt/kde3/bin/kmail There is no need to su root, su user, there is no need to mess witht the command line prompt on the remote machine, and you can store it as an ICON on your desktop, and start it with a single click.... Jerry P.S. what is confusing all of us is that you don't seam to realise that the -X means "use my local display for all X-Windows programs". I sugest that you do ssh -X user@remote and then try /usr/X11R6/bin/xclock, just to see what happens...
