Hello,
I am trying to get a ATI 9600 video card working with SUSE 9. So far I have installed the latest ATI driver from here ...
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/linux/radeon-linux.html?type=linux &prodType=graphic&prod=productsLINUXdriver&submit.x=12&submit.y=7&subm it=GO%21
and followed the ATI install to the letter.
But... now yast does not allow the resolution to be set. I can do it using the fglrxconfig routine i8n a sh, but not with yast. yast screws up the screen when started and forces a re-boot to straighten it out again.
3d does not work. fglrxinfo diplays an error that says ... Xlib: connection tp ":0.0" refused by server.
Anyone get a ATI 9600 working with SUSE 9? how?

This has been mentioned several times already on this list, you might want to search the mail archives for many of your answers. Had you actually read the instructions included with the ATI drivers, you might find that you could no longer use the conventional means of setting resolutions, 3d, etc for your card. Furthermore, in trying to do so, you lose those things the driver tried to do after installing. The 9600 is supported natively by SuSE 9.0, so there is no real need to use the ATI drivers as the kernel module is already present for 3d and using the card. Sax2 will configure everything for you. YaST2 is good and getting better, but using sax2 is the better choice. You might try removing the ATI rpm and dropping down to init 3 to use sax2, but it's a good possibility you have things wanky trying to mix the two. Nice thing about Linux is that it can be fixed.
