first, The name of this product is SuSE Enterprise Server 8 and it means....SuSE takes the responsibility to provide the newest configuration in this package. Man, this SuSE Enterprise Server 8 has only KDE 3.0 and a lot of old software even this is the newest version of enterprise edition package.
I think you've missed the point of "Enterprise". With this package, SuSE supplied the latest *stable* versions *at the time*. SLE8 has now been out for some time so will inevitable be "out of date", although this isn't such an issue for an Enterprise package, which will always place stability above cutting-edge features. Also, SLE8 comes with a far better support package than the consumer distro. But if you did your research before making major purchasing decisions, you'd know that. Sorry for the tone, but I can have little sympathy with someone being surprised by the content of something they've bought when the details are readily available - even proclaimed.
