Guess I will wait to see what folks report from the upgrade process to an existing 9.0 install.
That's a wise approach, especially if you're unsure how to get yourself out of a fix.
Will then decide if I need the full, upgrade, or download version.
There is no decision as to whether the full or upgrade box is needed from an installation point of view. The installation media are *exactly the same* - the upgrade edition can and does do installs on virgin machines. There is no licence compliance test. The *only* difference is whether you want full paper manuals or a briefer upgrade guide. After all, the manuals are on the install disks. The ftp edition is a slightly different matter - it can be daunting or problematic for less experienced users; it's a lot to download (even excluding the source code); and a few packages are missing for licence reasons. If you prefer physical media then I'd go for the upgrade edition - then it's up to you if you want to do a clean install or system upgrade. Hope that's a bit clearer.
