Hello all, Well, I downloaded KDE 3.2.1 for SuSE 8.2 to see if some of the problems I was suffering from would be fixed, and indeed they have been! No more crashes when I attach a file in kmail, no more stalling when downloading files with kget, and no more troubles logging in automatically. It's slick, fast, and so far I haven't experienced any difficulties. If you're running 3.2 already, I think you just _have_ to make the switch, and if you're not a 3.2.x user yet you might want to consider getting this release. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
Given that the SuSE 9.1 release is imminent and that both the 2.6 kernel and KDE 3.2 are integrated within it I am guessing that waiting another few weeks may be well advised for those of us lacking a lot of tinkering time, and for whom their SuSE boxes are "mission-critical". Am I expecting too much from SuSE 9.1? Or depending too much on the rumored release date? Will there be a charge for those of us who purchased the boxed version of SuSE 9 Pro to acquire the 9.1 CD's? Or will it be a free upgrade download? dmc Pieter Hulshoff wrote:

In the past, there has been a 'full' boxed edition with lots of tree-ware, a cheaper 'upgrade' boxed edition with the same CD/DVD set and less tree-ware. Then a few weeks later an ftp repository becomes available for free download. Take your choice... Guess I will wait to see what folks report from the upgrade process to an existing 9.0 install. Will then decide if I need the full, upgrade, or download version. I have no problem buying the disks to support the distro. Thanks! dmc

That's a wise approach, especially if you're unsure how to get yourself out of a fix.
Will then decide if I need the full, upgrade, or download version.
There is no decision as to whether the full or upgrade box is needed from an installation point of view. The installation media are *exactly the same* - the upgrade edition can and does do installs on virgin machines. There is no licence compliance test. The *only* difference is whether you want full paper manuals or a briefer upgrade guide. After all, the manuals are on the install disks. The ftp edition is a slightly different matter - it can be daunting or problematic for less experienced users; it's a lot to download (even excluding the source code); and a few packages are missing for licence reasons. If you prefer physical media then I'd go for the upgrade edition - then it's up to you if you want to do a clean install or system upgrade. Hope that's a bit clearer. Sounds as though I will want the upgrade edition media rather than fussing with FTP or other online downloads, esp. since I will probably be loading it on two desktops and a laptop.
