Are you sure about that "Dont START a path with a slash" bit? I can believe not ENDING a path with a slash, but starting is a different matter.
I got that bit of advice from someone else's posting. I have no personal experience as to whether the slash is needed/harmful or not. But I would guess that the result depends on the particular ftp site you're using -- whether /pub and pub are equivalent. That depends on whether pub is a top-level directory for an ftp login.
