I also have this same problem only worse... the sound works for some time (about 15 minutes) and then it just stops working unless I reboot the computer.
Also if I use gaim and try to log out after that, everything seems to freeze and I can't do anything (not even move the cursor of the mouse on the screen) except cold boot the computer
Any ideas?
Thanks,

I can't get any sound in gaim, the Gnu instant message program, even though I do get sound from just about every other application and from KDE itself. Is anyone out there using gaim? Do you get sound from it? If so, was there any trick in getting it to work?

I don't know if this is related, but I notice that after using Mozilla (1.4) for a while, all sound stops. It took a while before I discovered that Mozilla was the problem, but when sound stops if I exit Mozilla, not only does sound work again, but all of the sounds which should have occurred previously happen. This makes for some interesting 'songs' if I have been Gaim for a while and many sounds have been saved up. Bernie Gardner
