The scratches are about 1 inch wide (or 2.7cm) and about the same length. They vary from deep to almost invisible starting at the inner hold. The marks on the DVD were literally invisible and I could only see them after I tried wiping it with a clean cloth.
Are you sure this is not the 2 CD drives problem reported by others. It starts the install fine but when it comes to reading the packages it tries to read from /dev/cdrom and if your drive has another name it freezes.
Nope. I tried it as Master and after I bought a DVD drive, the same thing. The scratches are pretty bad on 4 & 5, almost invisble on 3, but visible on 1 and 2. Especially if you take a moment to wipe the disks and then they show up real well. As mentioned above, it is obviously some sort of mechanical issue because the scratchs are uniform in size and placement. 8.2, which has some of the same installation issues went back on without a hitch. Since I keep my /home partitioned separate it was back to normal in a few moments after finishing with going back with the older version. I got a RMA for it today and should have a new set in about a week. -- Doug
