In that case, can I safely have common working directories, i.e. /home, available for both and be without problems with the .xxx config files.
You will definitely have problems with a lot of config files and folders. What I do is keeping the config files & folders which I know will work between versions on a seperate partition (where I keep my work files) and symlink to them from the home folders. That's how I do when upgrading to a new version of SuSE or when evaluating other Linux dists. Of course you need to keep the same UID to make this work properly.
And is there a how-to on this please?
Trial & error & email lists...:-) Honestly, I haven't seen a howto on this yet. Cheers, HÖ -- /// Helgi Örn Helgason, Registered Linux User: #189958 \\\ \\\ ~~~~ SuSE 8.2 * Kernel 2.4.20-4GB * KDE 3.1.4 ~~~~ ///
