Howdy all, welcome to the final answer to my ponderings
Bottom line is the very existence of the site may be in jeopardy, given I can't afford the hardware to expand the options of what packages I provide, I certainly can't afford the sort of hosting the site requires now, never mind what it would require were I to create a full GNOME distribution.
I've subsequently spoken to my boss, and although he didn't say it outright, I got the impression that I'm not going to be asked to move the site off the company web servers. I suspect I over-reacted and panicked a bit, understandably though I think. However, as I've said in my latest blog entry, I also feel that it might be tempting fate, and pushing my luck to expand the site to a full GNOME distribution with the added disk space and traffic that will result in, so in a round-about way, I've come to an answer to my question of yesterday. usr-local-bin.org will, for the time being at least, continue to provide packages of the applications and their dependencies, as well as the themes and misc stuff sections. I want to express my deep gratitude for all the messages of support I've had over the last couple of days, it's so good to know people find the site so useful.
