No Ben, it does not work.. :-( 1. Using the original java /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so gives the following...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so [/usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: GetGlobalServiceManager__16nsServiceManagerPP17nsIServiceManager] <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
2. Using the 1.4.2Beta /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2Beta/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: No manager for initializing factory?
System error?:: Success <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< 3. And using the 1.4.2Beta (3.2) /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2Beta/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so gives the following...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2Beta/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so [libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
If I found the src I would make a build of my own... :-) Ben Rosenberg wrote:

Thanks, but those binaries does not work on SuSE 8.0.
And my system is fully patched. The System thses binaries were build on was probably SuSE 8.2 or something with a newer glibc than 8.0's glibc-2.2.5-177...
As I said before , the heck with it... :-)
As I've said before. The tar.gz of rc2 works just fine. Just because it's an installer shouldn't discourage you from installing it. It's a damn good release. You can get the tar.gz file from Mozilla.org and it should work with the Java release on 8.0 just fine. I'd just rename the /opt/mozilla directory to /opt/mozilla.old then install the rc2 binaries. It's a damn nice release.
BTW..a side note. The README in the directory on SuSE's ftp site states the rpm's in the same directory are for 8.2. :)
