We were just out driving home from dinner, and it was announced on the radio news (german). My German isn't that good, but I understood enough so that I got the impression that this is really something big over here.
MickySoft may HAVE been used in large numbers in Germany, but there has been a LOT of dislike for M$ for a long time. I'd guess that yes, it IS "big news" there.
Yep, and I think that there will be a lot more cities over here falling now. IIRC this is the second one to fall, along with the government switching some of their computers over.
One other thing I read was that SuSE and IBM were in the bidding for the contract. Now that would really be a feather in their cap!!
Yes, and I'll be very surprised if they don't get the contract. There are other important converts as well in Europe, like Ford, which dumped MickySoft on over 10,000 workstations and servers awhile ago, replacing M$ with Linux. I'd really like it proven that MickySoft is behind SCO. IF someone in the right position digs deep enough, someone at SCO or MickySoft will talk. I'm certain that IBM would/will win in court, however, at this point in time, it might be better if IBM simply bought out SCO and then RELEASED ALL of the SCO code under GPL.
