DVD burning is a crime on linux... First of all there is the *BIG* difference in DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W). Although it seems that the '+' variant becomes the standard, there are many DVD-R(w) drives available. Secondly, the author of cdrecord has decided that he wants to make money on DVD burning. Therefore, it is not possible to write a completely used DVD with cdrecord. In the mean while there is a spin-off of cdrecord called dvdrecord, but it is a 0.1 version. Development goes very slowly, and it has a numerous amount of bugs.
I tried to get it work with the latest DVD+RW drive from Philips, but no succes. This is a linux issue, on winblows it works fine. Finally I bought a Pioneer DVD-RW drive and got it working with dvdrecord.
I don't agree that burning DVD is pain in the a**. I have a HP DVD+RW 200i and I use dvd+rw tools to burn images prepared with k3b (mkisofs) and it works absolutely fabulous . -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Aleksandar Topuzovic System & network administrator
