Hey Group:
I have a HD with a bootable (MBR) filesystem and files. It is knoppix. Boots just fine off the HD. Now I would like to backwards the HD as a "On the fly" compressed file.
Parse error: incomprehensible syntax. "backwards" is an adverb (or possibly an adjective...). not a verb. Did you mean "back up"?
I have looked at cpio, dd, mkisofs, tar, and others. I have the files on one HD and the to be built on another HD.
Anyone completed this process?
I can see the file making process but miss the "On the fly" part.
I'm not entirely sure of what you're trying to achieve. You could back up a partition and compress it with "dd if=/dev/hda1 | gzip > backup.gz". If you meant something else, please elaborate.
