Nick, thanks for this. I had to switch around the ln -s commands as they seemed to be back to front, and then it all worked fine. Thanks again for the help. Bruce At 17:48 09/10/2002 +0300, you wrote:
Hi Bruce,
I found a previous mail that may help you.
--------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to configure my SuSE 7.3 system for shutdown after upgrading to KDE 3 with apt-get. I tried to follow these instruction that I picked up from the archive about upgrading from KDE 2 to KDE 3:
I have posted the solution to this before ( SuSE 7.3 )
mkdir /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm ln -s /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc ln -s /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xaccess
edit the files in /etc/SuSEconfig and change:
qt2 -> qt3 kde2 -> kde3
edit /etc/init.d/xdm, change:
kde2 -> kde3
Add kde3 to /usr/X11R6/bin/wmlist
Add kde3 to the sessionlist in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
Add kde3 to /etc/ld.so.conf
run ldconfig
run rcxdm start
Does this still apply with the latest SuSE packages? If so, why do I see no reference to kde2 (should be changed to kde3 per instructions) in the /etc/SuSEconfig files? Personally, I would rather change these in the /etc/rc.config file as recomended in the SuSEconfig files, if I just could find the entries. ------------------------------------------------------ On Wednesday 09 October 2002 15:37, Bruce Scharlau wrote:

Hi,
Edit your /etc/rc.config and change the variable DEFAULT_WM to kde3
run SuSEconfig
logout / login
and you must be ok.
Nick,
