Btw, its a Dell, not a Compaq =) And no I didnt have a choice of operating system. XP is preinstalled on it and on the XP CD-rom it clearly says that its "only for use on Dell computers".
I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 that is configured for dual boot with XP and SuSE 8.0. I used the XP CDROM to re-install XP from scratch. Since this is a true install (rather than a ghost image), I was given the opportunity to partition the disk drive. I created one for XP and one for Linux. The only thing I use XP for is to run a couple of games. Everything else is on Linux. I now have this system to the point where I can do most of my remote work support from Linux. Dave Sand
