Hi from a new user, I'm still working on discovering the differences between DISPLAYMANAGER and DEFAULT_WM (Window Manager), in general, and in how these variables in /etc/rc.config control the startup experience. The configuration I seek provides startup sequence as follows: 1. Boot to text console for login. This is successful as long as I set runlevel 3 in /etc/inittab 2. Login as user, not superuser or root. No problem. 3. Get from the text console to a KDE Desktop. This is where I have a trouble. If I login as root, or 'su' from user login, running 'startx' gets me to KDE and exiting therefrom returns me to the text console; which is exactly what I want to do from user login; however, when user login starts 'startx', I end up in fvwm desktop. What can I fix to change from fvwm to kde? I thought it would have to be something in or under ~/ but 'grep -ilrs fvwm *' yields nothing from there, other than in .xinitrc which I had relocated to ~/removed/ in case it was the cause ;-} Thanks, -- Maynard
