A friend of mine received the following message after setting up an ftp server at SuSE 8.0 (and logging in into the machine): "421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection."
After some investigation I suspect that this is caused by too restrictive permissions of the home directory, is that possible?
If you log in and get the home directory you're probably logging in as that user, so I doubt it's a permissions problem. My guess would be that it's a firewall thing. Running passive ftp while the server isn't allowing connections on high ports can cause strange errors. //Anders -- `When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'
