I was one of the 1st people to "complain" about a feature in the program YaST1 which has been discontinued in favor of only having YaST2. Please let me assure you that version 8.0 is far more stable and functional overall than previous releases. Also, please let me point out that I find, from reading and following other distribution forums and posts, that the SuSE is by far the more response of Linux distrubutor than the other vendors in my opinion. I have every confidence that the development team and management will respond and rectify/update the OS as per the clientele's request. So, to sum it up I highly recommend version 8.0. Many of the systems are improved and will continue to be polished as time goes on. SuSE is "extremely" diligent and comprehensive about the products they deliver in my humble opinion. KDE 3 is far more stable and functional in almost all respects, and those features that need fixing or might at first have a bug here or there will be short lived, since the developers at KDE and SuSE are in a constantly working at improving and expanding the programs and systems functionality. Hardware detection is much better and more complete. New features such as back-up features are more accessible and the users and administrators will find many more options for configuring the systems. If the subject of "all the patches" that are available since the release of 8.0 are of concern to you. I must point out that I find this gratifying. Insofar that "all" new products will have patches and the fact that there are indeed patch to the new version is testimony to the continued commitment to product assurance and customer satisfaction. Consider the alternative, Microsoft only release patchs after their clientele complain or vunerabilities have been made public and threaten Microsoft marketing strategy. With SuSE, and Linux in general, anyone that has an issue or finds a deficiency in a program has direct access to the developer. Hence, the product is in a continual state of improvement. So, utilize this feature and install the needed patchs or upgrades. That's what assures you and others of the best product and system available. I for one am very pleased overall with version 8.0 and my complaints are my input to the company in an attempt to help them round out the product and polish it. Hope this helps. I've found SuSE8 to be the best yet. I installed it on my desktop computer without any problems at all. I haven't run inot any of the problems posted on the list... yet.
I have been having minor issues installing it on a laptop. Mostly due to the hardware being a bit odd. It's a good opportunity for me to do a bit of reading, and learning...
For my situation, the upgrade to 8.0 was the best money spent this year.

Hi people!
This morning I'm very confuse. I really don't know what to do. I read a lot of threads on the list about suse 8.0 and I don't know if it will work and if I must keep it. I ordered SuSe Update 8.0 and I will receive it this morning. Is it possible to return it, I bought it from SuSe? I like the products that suse do and I use it for a while but I ask me if it's not better to keep 7.3 with the lot of bugs that 8.0 seems to have. Someone can help me to decide and tell me what you think? Another side of me tell me to try it because it's probably the best that I have. Also, I want to try KDE 3. So is there really a lots of big bugs in 8.0 or if it is ok? just minor bugs? It still have something I must learn to be happy with linux but these questions are for other threads.
Thanks for your help
