Hello Ron, Well if you just want to be able to ping yourself edit your /etc/hosts and add linux 127.0.0.1. If you have a name resolution for your private network, then modify your /etc/resolv.conf to point the right name server. And yes, the dhcp client can automatically update the /etc/resolv.conf if the dhcp server is providing the address of your network's dns.
