The following describes installing StarOffice 6.0beta, perhaps OpenOffice maintains the same system...
First: chmod u+x so-6_0-beta-bin-linux-<language>.bin
Then for the network installation (as root): ./so-6_0-beta-bin-linux-<language>.bin -net
Then as user you can activate the setup as it is explained in the setup document from Sun (setup_guideeng.pdf).

I guess I don't understand the question, but I had a preview of the StarOffice 6.0 system at LinuxWorld, NY, a couple of days ago, and it blew my mind. It is really a full-fledged word processor and spread sheet. If it performs like the demo, there is no reason for anyone to use MS Word or even Corel WP. (I like WP in Windows, altho I liked version 5.1 better.) The new SO will not take over your GUI, it will be available as an app, like everything else. SO is a really neat system. They say it will be available in April or May. I did not ask if it will be free, all I asked for was a copy, but I didn't get one. --doug
