Thunderbird 1GHz with 256 meg ram here. I had a problem with a jerky/unresponsive mouse, until I turned on dma on the hard drives. It happened in kde and gnome but not so much in the 'lighter' managers. With dma on, though, everything is ok

quite sure i'm running an amd athalon 800 with 256mb ram
and the problem comes even when nothing is running except the normal stuff in the background
Running the exact same CPU here (with 768mb) and the cursor is smooth as silk.

on the same topic does anyone know why my mouse is "wonky" in kde? the acceleration chages almost randomly it's hard to explain but i move at a medium pace from one side of the screen to another and the acceleration/decelleration seems a bit off in comparison to both mac and windows systems
i've fiddled with the acceleration option in the control panel but to no avail
i'm using a logitech mouseman wheel (optical, 4button) on suse7.2 ..don't know how to find out what version of kde i'm running
kde control center==> information ==> X server
Are you sure this isn't a problem with the cpu being limited or being
sucked
up by some other process?
CTL-esc will give you a display of what resources are being used.
