If a Red Hat book tell me to: "go to the /usr/src/linux directory, and run make config"
how am I suposed to do that in SuSE?
With Yast you need to go into the 'd' section, and from there add: i] linux Rest of the kernel source code Then hit F10, and do the install. Its in general, as you did not tell us what SuSE version you are using.
If I do it just like that theres not even a file in the linux directory, so instead of geting into the /linux I am going to the /linux-2.2.18 and there is a .config file which I modified but how do I compile it now?
