it sounds like you need the "-t" option when you mount the floppy. What type of filesystem is the floppy formatted? Perhaps "msdos" or "ext2". If the floppy is msdos format the mount command should be: mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy just replace the parameter for the "-t" option with the appropriate filesystem type.
