/dev/scanner and /dev/sg3 has own/grp as root/root. I changed this to root/user and it now works as user. Something I just didn't think of. Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.
I do have one further question. I question if root/user is the right one to use. I am thinking this might cause a security hole.
If you or anyone has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate hearing from you and suggestions of what to change it to that user would be part of the group.
/dev/sg* are usually owned by root/disk, this is the default on SuSE. So just include your user into disk group. -Kastus
