on Sat, 14 Apr 2001 09:29:54 -0700 Earth Standard Time I get the same message, no scanner found, if I run Kscan (717) as user.
that sure sounds like the permission for your user isn't set correctly , if you log in as user and look where ever the device is locate /dev/scanner , does teh icon have what appears to be a padlock attached to teh scanner icon ? if it does , that user doesn't have permission to use it... ( dunno what you have to do to change it , probably some group you have to add the user to or some suchlike thing .. Blondely,

Thanks j. /dev/scanner and /dev/sg3 has own/grp as root/root. I changed this to root/user and it now works as user. Something I just didn't think of. Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. I do have one further question. I question if root/user is the right one to use. I am thinking this might cause a security hole. If you or anyone has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate hearing from you and suggestions of what to change it to that user would be part of the group. Nevada

/dev/sg* are usually owned by root/disk, this is the default on SuSE. So just include your user into disk group. -Kastus
