Hi Folks,
I purchased four Professional boxes last week for use at a government lab. I started to install on a 1200-Mhz Athlon system on Monday and encountered the following problems.
1. A "Modules" disk was bad in one of the boxes, glad I purchased more than one!
Mounting CD #1 on some other machine, and using dd to dump a file to floppy with the command: dd if=/cdrom/disks/modules of=/dev/fd0h1440 bs=512 Or, on a DOS pc: D:\dosutils\rawrite\rawrite source: D:\disks\modules destination: A:
2. I used yast1, and after a few false starts booted to a working system. Alas, the keyboard was messed up, as in hitting the "Y" key gave you a "Z" on the screen. Alas, the "/" key mapped to "_", so I couldn't cd around to fix the problem. End of first day.
A german keymap. When the cd is mounted, you can issue in VC#2 loadkeys us for a US keymap.
3. I booted the rescue system and mounted the / partition to edit /etc/rc.config where I found the keyboard mapping to be latin. I'm not sure if I screwed up, or if the default is screwey. Removing the latin entry fixed things up.
4. Now, I notice that when I type the "more" command, all I get is the following:
dunno what's wrong with those two...
/var/log> more boot.log more: unknown option "--" usage: more [-dflpcsu] [+linenum | +/pattern] name1 name2 ...
This error is the same regardless of the argument to the program. less, and zmore work okay.
One wonders, "If more is broken, what else is affected?"
Don't get me wrong, I like SuSE and have been using it since 5.2. I just thought I'd report my experiences to date.
