Hi Folks, I purchased four Professional boxes last week for use at a government lab. I started to install on a 1200-Mhz Athlon system on Monday and encountered the following problems. 1. A "Modules" disk was bad in one of the boxes, glad I purchased more than one! 2. I used yast1, and after a few false starts booted to a working system. Alas, the keyboard was messed up, as in hitting the "Y" key gave you a "Z" on the screen. Alas, the "/" key mapped to "_", so I couldn't cd around to fix the problem. End of first day. 3. I booted the rescue system and mounted the / partition to edit /etc/rc.config where I found the keyboard mapping to be latin. I'm not sure if I screwed up, or if the default is screwey. Removing the latin entry fixed things up. 4. Now, I notice that when I type the "more" command, all I get is the following: /var/log> more boot.log more: unknown option "--" usage: more [-dflpcsu] [+linenum | +/pattern] name1 name2 ... This error is the same regardless of the argument to the program. less, and zmore work okay. One wonders, "If more is broken, what else is affected?" Don't get me wrong, I like SuSE and have been using it since 5.2. I just thought I'd report my experiences to date. Regards, Lew Wolfgang SPAWARSYSCEN San Diego
Not sure I can help, but your point about the broken the Modules disk reminded soo much of the days before CD's were used. Who remembers the days of 15 disk installs? Or even 30 disk...And remember when you got to near the end only to find out an hour later that disk number 13 or 14 is corrupt.... Thats weird about more....so an ls | more fails? or an ls | less? Hopefully someone has the answer to that one... Matt On Tuesday 27 February 2001 11:45 pm, Lewis E. Wolfgang wrote:

Hi Folks,
I purchased four Professional boxes last week for use at a government lab. I started to install on a 1200-Mhz Athlon system on Monday and encountered the following problems.
1. A "Modules" disk was bad in one of the boxes, glad I purchased more than one!
Mounting CD #1 on some other machine, and using dd to dump a file to floppy with the command: dd if=/cdrom/disks/modules of=/dev/fd0h1440 bs=512 Or, on a DOS pc: D:\dosutils\rawrite\rawrite source: D:\disks\modules destination: A:
2. I used yast1, and after a few false starts booted to a working system. Alas, the keyboard was messed up, as in hitting the "Y" key gave you a "Z" on the screen. Alas, the "/" key mapped to "_", so I couldn't cd around to fix the problem. End of first day.
A german keymap. When the cd is mounted, you can issue in VC#2 loadkeys us for a US keymap.
3. I booted the rescue system and mounted the / partition to edit /etc/rc.config where I found the keyboard mapping to be latin. I'm not sure if I screwed up, or if the default is screwey. Removing the latin entry fixed things up.
4. Now, I notice that when I type the "more" command, all I get is the following:
dunno what's wrong with those two...
/var/log> more boot.log more: unknown option "--" usage: more [-dflpcsu] [+linenum | +/pattern] name1 name2 ...
This error is the same regardless of the argument to the program. less, and zmore work okay.

could it be that more is used as an alias??

Hi Folks, My thanks go to Matt, Tor, Tabanna and Juergen for helping with the "more" problem. Here's some additional info. "more" also fails when it its the destination of a pipe, as in "ls / |more". It also isn't aliased to something else. Since "more" is dynamically linked, I was worried about a corrupted library, but after moving a "more" binary over from a 7.0 system all is well. I guess the libraries are okay. Has anyone else seen a "more" problem? Maybe it's just a sample defect on my dvd and not a distribution hicup. Regards, Lew Wolfgang SPAWARSYSCEN San Diego
I know that this is completely off-topic, but I don't know where else to ask it. So I will keep it very short. Are there any radio amateurs who use the TNT packet radio program which comes with the SuSE distro, and who could give me basic some help in getting it going? If so, could you please reply to me privately. Many thanks. Keith keithp@g4jvx.screaming.net
Why is that off-topic? Sounds interesting, how do you set this stuff up? What do you have to get and is it expensive? Matt On Wed, 28 Feb 2001, Keith Powell wrote:

My 'investigation" was to determine if there was any "new" blood coming into ham radio. My theory is that if all the folks who respond are over 30 then the answer is no, and ham radio is dying. Is it? JLK On Saturday 03 March 2001 13:36, you wrote:
