Most notebook modem are 'win modem', my Acer-734 (quite a high end model) is a classic case. SuSE 7 pro is on, modem still not workable. I spent quite some time trying to figure it out but at the end, just pop-in a cheap PCMCIA modem and solve all the problem. Unless you're really have time or like to have some fun, you might want to reconsider my suggestion. The onboard modem (in my case) work very well under 'winzz' and Lucent soft modem (some) are supported by Linux, with some CPU power overhead, so it is up to you to decide if this is worth for you? Good luck Dennis @Singapore I've installed various linux on my portable ACER508T, all worked fine.....but I can't use the integrated modem. Do you know if suse 7.0 support it?? I'm going to buy 7.0.... but i'll ve very happy if worksssssss...
