I think the reason it's linked to a program is that KDE's new themes aren't based on images patched together, but widgets to enhance speed. I would suspect you might need to be a bit handy with programming to accomplish that - however I know KDE2 is also suppose to support KDE1 themes (I'm not sure if they only effect application themeing or also KWin theming. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Nice. Are these user-configurable or can I add my own? Thanks.
I think I have answered my own question. I traced down one of the windowing themes, in particular the RISC OS theme. It would be located in the file:
/opt/kde2/share/apps/kwin/riscos.desktop
I have managed to add one of these things to my own directory, and have it show up in the Decoration list:
~/.kde/share/apps/kwin/blahblah.desktop
The file looks like this:
[Desktop Entry] Name=RISC OS X-KDE-Library=libkwinriscos
which tells me that it is not user-configurable. What a bummer. I wonder if there will be some interface to create these themes?
I have been messing around with KDE-2.0 beta4. I am pleased for the most part, but am having some difficulty determining what's
available and
what's not. I definitely do not like the maximize, minimize, etc buttons on the windows but am trying to figure how to change them. The theme mechanism has changed but I do not know if you can change the button pixmaps or not. The old KDE allowed you to put the buttons you wanted on either side of the window, and I do not see this feature either.
Has anybody been using KDE-2.0, yet? I realize this is a beta, I am just looking to see if someone found a way to change some of the features. The browser konqueror is really improved over the old version.
