I have been messing around with KDE-2.0 beta4. I am pleased for the most part, but am having some difficulty determining what's available and what's not. I definitely do not like the maximize, minimize, etc buttons on the windows but am trying to figure how to change them. The theme mechanism has changed but I do not know if you can change the button pixmaps or not. The old KDE allowed you to put the buttons you wanted on either side of the window, and I do not see this feature either. Has anybody been using KDE-2.0, yet? I realize this is a beta, I am just looking to see if someone found a way to change some of the features. The browser konqueror is really improved over the old version. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Right click the title bar, from there there is a window decoration sub-menu that let's you change the Window Manager theme. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Nice. Are these user-configurable or can I add my own? Thanks.

On the same general subject, but a different question: In KDE1 the top panel would tell me all the open applications, regardless of the desktop (say netscape desktop 1, kmail desktop 2). With KDE2, if I am on desktop 2, I don't know wich applications are open in Desktop 1, unless I switch to 1. Is there a way of recovering the KDE1's behavior? -- Alvaro Novo SuSE 6.4 Kernel 2.2.16 KDE 2 - Beta 4 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
If you are using the new KDE2 Beta 4 (1.93), you can right click the little "handle" next to the task bar (on the panel), and click "Configure." From there, you have an option to move the task bar back to the top (the menu next to the K-gear menu on the panel also lists all currently running apps). -tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. I didn't see an answer to this go past in the list. If you're still wondering, you go to the Control Centre -> Look & Feel -> Taskbar dialog and select the "Show all Windows" option. This is in the current CVS code; I'm not sure whether it made it into beta 4. If it didn't it'll be in the next beta. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
I can't say, I'm almost sure you can, but I'm not positive. Let me post that question on KDE's discussion list and see what they say. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. I think I have answered my own question. I traced down one of the windowing themes, in particular the RISC OS theme. It would be located in the file: /opt/kde2/share/apps/kwin/riscos.desktop I have managed to add one of these things to my own directory, and have it show up in the Decoration list: ~/.kde/share/apps/kwin/blahblah.desktop The file looks like this: [Desktop Entry] Name=RISC OS X-KDE-Library=libkwinriscos which tells me that it is not user-configurable. What a bummer. I wonder if there will be some interface to create these themes?

I think the reason it's linked to a program is that KDE's new themes aren't based on images patched together, but widgets to enhance speed. I would suspect you might need to be a bit handy with programming to accomplish that - however I know KDE2 is also suppose to support KDE1 themes (I'm not sure if they only effect application themeing or also KWin theming. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R.
