CP thank you so much for this question. I looked at my etc/module.conf and found it had been restored to its original state, thus disabling my sound chip. It is now working again. Question for all: what does this sort of thing and when, so i know to look out for it And CP, since you're a miracle worked, maybe you can tell me how to get the parallel port zip drive to work. the line in fstab is /dev/sda4 /mnt/zip auto rw,noauto,user 0 0 and the error mesg in kfm is mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/sda4 as a block device (maybe 'insmod driver'?
