Hi,
I'm looking for a high performance, stable and transaction supporting rdbms for Linux. ;-) I know I want too much. mysql is good candidate for speed. But since it doesn't support transcations and this project contains some financial operations I need a more advanced database server. I thinking about Sybase and Interbase. If you have experiences about these databases please let me know.
Interbase wins hands down for me. Been using it for a good few years, for everything from small 'desktop' apps to 200 user systems. Obviously you will lose out slightly on speed over mySQL but gain transactions, stored procedures, triggers, UDF's (embedded shared objects in your language of choice) and the best multi-versioning architecture there is.
